Why the Moon Matters π
Whether you view the Moon through the lens of science, symbolism, astrology or spirituality, there's no doubt that it's waxing and waning invokes a sense of awe and wonder.

Our next Full Moon Flow is coming up and it's got us thinking about why the Moon matters...
π Science
The Moon's cycle lasts around 29 days and has a powerful influence on life here on Earth.
Its gravitational pull creates the tides that move our oceans. Given that our bodies are made up of around 60% water, it's perhaps no surprise that many people notice shifts in their energy, emotions and sleep patterns as the Moon waxes from New Moon to Full Moon, and wanes back again.
The Full Moon marks the peak of this cycle. As the Moon reaches its fullest expression in the night sky, it becomes impossible to ignore - bright, beautiful and impossible to miss.
π Astrology
In astrology, the Sun and Moon are known as the luminaries.
The Sun generates light; the Moon reflects it. The Full Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon stand directly opposite one another in the sky, creating the fully illuminated Moon we see from Earth.
Astrologically, the Moon is associated with our emotional world, intuition and inner landscape, while the Sun represents vitality, action and outward expression.
The Full Moon is often seen as a moment of illumination - a time when things come into clearer focus.
π Symbolism
The Moon has long been associated with the feminine principle - think yin energy, reflection, receptivity and flow. The Sun represents its counterpart: yang energy, warmth, activity and expression.
The Full Moon represents the peak of the lunar cycle - a time of awareness, clarity and seeing things as they truly are. It reminds us that life moves in cycles, and that growth is rarely linear.
π Spirituality & Tradition
For thousands of years, people have used the Moon as a guide.
Many Indigenous peoples of North America named each Full Moon according to the rhythms of the natural world...the Wolf Moon in January, when wolves were often heard howling during the long winter nights; the Strawberry Moon in June, marking the short strawberry harvest; and the Harvest Moon of autumn, whose bright light helped farmers gather crops before the arrival of winter.
The sky served as a calendar, a compass and a reminder that human life is woven into the wider web of nature.
The Full Moon invites us to remember that connection. As the Moon reaches its fullest expression, we are invited to pause, notice what is flourishing, honour how far we've come, and gently let go of what no longer belongs in the next chapter of our journey.
π A Little Moon Lore
For centuries, people have linked the Full Moon with heightened energy, emotion and unusual events.
Interestingly, some studies have explored whether births and emergency room admissions increase around the Full Moon, although the evidence remains mixed.
The word lunatic comes from the Latin luna, meaning Moon, reminding us that humans have long associated lunar cycles with changes in mood and behaviour.

With the Sun now in the zodiac sign of Cancer the Full Moon on Monday 29th June falls in the opposite sign of Capricorn.
In astrology the Cancer/Capricorn axis represents roots, home, family and the mother/grandmother (Cancer) and career, our public facing persona, tradition, authority and the father/grandfather (Capricorn).
These longer practices are suitable for all abilities - they start slowly, move through a steady grounding flow and end with a long, deep relaxation.
We hope you can join us!
